Breastfeeding was not something that came easily to me personally. I have two children and with each I was only able to breastfeed for a few weeks before either my milk dried up cold turkey or it was in the babies best interest. With my first the milk stopped cold turkey and with the second, and last baby, I wanted to try so badly again to be successful with it. No matter what I tried I could not produce enough to keep my baby fed and gaining weight. After numerous doctors visits, foot pricks, and bili lights I was to make the decision to continue feeding and supplement or formula feed. I could supplement and still breastfeed but the concern was jaundice. If my baby did not start gaining weight and lowering the jaundice levels we would be in a more serious situation. Although I wanted to continue my breastfeeding journey, the stress of my childs health, the hours of unlatching and latching for one feeding, and loss of energy were taking complete control over my body. The defeat of not being able to breastfeed again and provide for my child was devastating but to me it was in mine and my childs best interest so we would both be happy and healthy.
Breastfeeding requires lots of food, water, emotions, time, and sometimes even special diets. As mothers we give so much day in and day out to be able to provide for our children already. Whether its been days, weeks, months or even years, we should have something to commerate that journey we shared with our child/children. Once my breastfeeding journey was over, although it was short, I started to look for ways to remember it. I found a few sites that could make what I was looking for but it just wasnt quite right, so here we are. I decided to make my own specialized jewelry and offer that to those of you who have enjoyed that journey as well!.
